High School Equivalency (HSE) Exam Registration

Where can I take the High School Equivalency (HSE) Exam?

The High School Equivalency (HSE) Exam is administered each month at Sussex County Community College’s Testing Center. Tests are offered on Saturdays to accommodate participants. Any New Jersey resident, 18 years or older not having a high school diploma is eligible to take the exam. Individuals who are 16 and 17 years old are eligible to register to take the High School Equivalency (HSE) Exam with written parental permission. It is recommended that all 16 and 17 year old students enroll and complete four official High School Equivalency (HSE) practice tests in the ABE/HSE Study Program.

Registration Information:
  • Registration is done online or in person prior to testing. Payment is made at registration with a debit, credit card, pay pal or gift card. The cost for the entire test is $100.
  • All High School Equivalency (HSE) candidates must provide 2 forms of valid government-issued ID at the time of registration and when they report to testing. Examples include Driver’s license with picture, US Passport, or DMV ID, secondary ID can be either a Social Security card or birth certificate. Proof of residency is also required.
