NJBIA & NJCCC Workforce Training Grant

basicskillslogSkylands Professional Training at Sussex County Community College is proud to announce the availability of grant-funded training for employees of NJ-based businesses and organizations, including small business owner-operators. This program, a partnership between the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), the State’s community colleges and the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, makes this grant-funded training opportunity available.

The following grant-funded courses are offered:

Principles of Effective Communication – 8 hours (1 day)
Regardless of level or role in an organization, one of the most important skills for success in the workplace, is effective communication. Having people in your organization with great communication skills is critical in today’s business landscape. Communications skills enable people to engage in dialogue with others and establish a rapport that is crucial to your business. Whether relationships are with direct reports, customers, co-workers, suppliers, vendors, other departments, or other companies, communication can make or break those connections. This workshop helps employees understand the impact that communication has on other people and on their workplace relationships. Participants will explore how improving these skills can improve effectiveness and performance.

Strategies to Effectively Manage Conflict – 8 hours (1 day)
Conflict is an organizational reality and when approached correctly can bring about positive change and improve business results. Too often we shy away from conflict because we are afraid of injuring important relationships or rocking the boat. In this interactive and practical course, you will identify your natural and adapted approach to conflict, discover multiple ways to navigate conflict and develop an individual plan to apply a four-step conflict model.

MS Excel 2016 Level 1 – Essentials – 8 hours (2 half days)
This class is perfect for people new to Excel or just not comfortable in the program yet. The course will cover entering data, basic Excel formulas and functions, formatting a worksheet to make it easy to read, as well as printing. Hands on practice is included with many tips and techniques to help you use Excel more efficiently to make data driven decisions.

MS Excel 2016 Level 2 – Advanced Formatting and Tables – 8 hours (2 half days)
If you are comfortable with basic Excel formulas but would like to learn more about Excel’s more advanced features, take this course. The course will cover logical, date and time, and text functions as well as tables for managing lists of information. Hands on practice will allow you to try out formulas yourself to help you understand how you might apply them to your own business environment. Pivot tables, pivot charts and advanced charting will also be covered. Come learn how to be the Excel expert in your office.
Prereq – MS Excel 2016 Level 1

MS Excel 2016 Level 3 – Advanced Data Analysis, Collaboration and Automation – 8 hours (2 half days)
Continue to build on your advanced skills. This course will cover working with multiple worksheets and workbooks using links and 3-D references, using LookUp functions and learning how to audit formulas. Increase your collaboration in the office more efficiently by learning the benefits of sharing and protecting workbooks and automating workbook functionality. Hands on experience will allow you to create sparklines and map data as well as forecast using data tables, scenarios and goal seek features.
Prereq – MS Excel 2016 Level 2

  • Employed at least 20 hours per week
  • Be paid by employer at their usual hourly rate while in training

NOTE: Employer must have a valid FEIN number. Courses are not available to State or local government employees.
