NJBIA & NJCCC Workforce Training Grant

basicskillslogSkylands Professional Training is proud to announce the availability of grant-funded MS Excel & PowerPoint training for employees of NJ-based businesses and organizations, including small business owner-operators. This program, a partnership between the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA), the State’s community colleges and the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development, makes this grant-funded training opportunity available.

Courses available for Spring 2017

Excel 1 – Excel Essentials
This class is perfect for people new to Excel or just not comfortable in the program yet. The course will cover entering data, formatting and formulas. Hands on practice is included with many tips and techniques to help you use Excel more efficiently to make data driven decisions.

March 21 and March 22

Excel 2 – Advanced Excel Formatting and Tables
If you use Excel to hold lists of customers or to consolidate information from many sources, this course is for you. The course will cover managing multiple worksheets and creating formulas to consolidate information from different worksheets. The course will also cover Excel’s powerful database features including sorting, filtering as well as subtotals.

April 11 and April 12

PowerPoint 1 – Creating Powerful Presentations
Learn how to create polished and powerful slides using PowerPoint’s designs and themes. We will also focus on adding interest to your slides with shapes, pictures, and graphics. Learn how to explain complex processes using PowerPoint Smart Art and display sales, growth or other types of data using a PowerPoint chart. Hands on experience is included to improve your skills during this 8 hour class.

April 25 and April 26

PowerPoint 2 – Beyond PowerPoint Basics
We will delve deeper into PowerPoint functionality by covering additional graphic techniques, adding animations, and media clips. Learn how to adjust packaged themes using the slide master, as well as how to add action buttons to slides. We will also learn how to integrate other Microsoft programs including Word outlines and Excel spreadsheets.

It’s Not What You’re Saying, It’s How You’re Saying It
Improve your business’s customer service by learning proven techniques to communicate more effectively with your customer. Learn how empathy, reframing and rephrasing the customer’s request can lead to a more positive outcome. Also learn what non-verbal cues might be undermining your message. We will put research on the science of influence and tone to use to transform your written communication. Tips on how to deliver bad news as well as dealing with angry customers will also be covered.

June 5 and June 6

Take Control of your To Do List
Take control over your to do list with time management techniques that you can put into effect immediately. Setting priorities, controlling project scope, setting goals and avoiding procrastination will be covered. We will introduce you to techniques, both online and paper based, that can help you become more efficient.

June 8 and June 9

9 am – 1 pm

Employees must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Employed at least 20 hours per week
  • Be paid by employer at their usual hourly rate while in training
