Betty June Silconas Poetry Center

The Betty June Silconas Poetry Center at Sussex County Community College honors the memory of Betty June Silconas, a Sparta, NJ resident, who celebrated her life in her poems. The joy and love she had for family, friends, and her home are evident in her work. Ms. Silconas never sought to be recognized. She wrote for the bliss she experienced as she chronicled the events in her life: seasons, celebrations, and her spirituality.

With a generous donation from the Silconas family, the Betty June Silconas Poetry Center was established. Our readings, workshops and The Stillwater Review provide a place for writers both in our community and across the country to share their work, their support, their love of poetry. We are deeply grateful to the Silconas family, especially to Betty June. Without her love of poetry, none of this would be possible.

THE STILLWATER REVIEW

The Stillwater Review was founded back in 2010 at Sussex County Community College by poet and now retired professor Priscilla Orr with support by the Betty June Silconas Poetry Center. The journal maintains what it means to publish the lyric poem—musicality at the heart of it, the delicate ideas at work in the layers. Since that time our journal has published poets like Michael Waters, Judith Vollmer, Paul Genega, Adele Kenny, J.C. Todd, Chuck Tripi, Mihaela Moscaliuc, Edwin Romond, Lois Marie Harrod, and Robert Carlos Garcia.

Our journal welcomes poetry, nonfiction, and cover art submissions from September 1 to December 15 each year for our annual print volume released in late spring. We accept submissions only through Submittable, see also for Submission Guidelines.

You may also purchase sample copies of past volumes on our Submittable page.
