What is Teen Arts?

Join us in celebrating 44 Years of Teen Arts!

Teen Arts celebrates the diverse artistic accomplishments of New Jersey students and schools. Since its inception in 1969, its goal has been to encourage middle and high school students to explore their potential and fine-tune their talents in the fine, literary, and performing arts including vocal music, instrumental music, dance, theater, creative writing, visual arts, photography, and video.

Sussex County Community College is the home of The Sussex County Teen Arts Program. The Teen Arts program incorporates a multitude of different events at both the county and state level, including County Teen Arts Festivals, the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival, Touring Visual Arts Exhibits, local cable TV and radio events and performances at invited venues.

These events unite schools throughout the county and state where they bring students and teachers together with the area’s finest professional artists and educators.

The annual Sussex County Teen Arts Festival in March and the follow-up State Teen Arts Festival in May, include student performances, a critiquing process, master classes and educational workshops.

The goal of the critiquing process by professional artists is to offer students feedback on their artistic abilities and insight into the creative process in a non-competitive, encouraging forum.

Workshops with professional artists in every field encourage exploration of new art forms or mastery of existing skills.

Support for the Teen Arts Program comes from several sources.
