Welcome to the Spring Semester!
We are glad that you have selected SCCC and we look forward to helping you achieve your goals this semester.
Below are just a few tips and links to help you get off to a great start.
- Pick up a student handbook. The handbook includes a calendar of student activities, a campus directory and college policies. The handbook is available at the information table set up in the Student Center Galleria or in the Student Activity Office (D105). You can also view the handbook online.
- Understand your degree requirements. The current checksheets for each of the degrees and certificates we offer are posted online. If you enrolled prior the fall of 2011, check with the Counseling & Advising Center for your checksheet.
- Activate and use your student email account. We will send important information to you using this account so it is important that you check it regularly. (If you have technical problems please contact our IT hotline at 973.300.2333.)
- Learn to use the Student Portal – my.sussex.edu. Use our online portal to view your schedule and grades, add/drop classes, view transcripts and much more! (If you have technical problems please contact our IT hotline at 973.300.2333.)
- Sign up for Rave – our emergency text/voice mail/email alert system.
- Make sure you have a current Student ID Card. If you are a new student stop by the Library to get your student ID. If you are a returning student you can pick up a spring 2012 sticker in the Business Office (B203) or the Library.
- Buy your books and SCCC gear!
- Know where you’re going. Your class locations are listed on your class schedule. Class locations are subject to change. Check the signs posted as you enter each building. Click here for a campus map.
- Get involved! There is so much more to SCCC than great classes. College clubs, athletics, theater performances, fine arts programs, lectures, day trips and service learning all add to the total college experience. There is never a shortage of things to do here. Check the website, bullet boards and weekly email blasts for information.
- Take advantage of campus resources.
- Our Learning Center provides support for students who may need tutoring, disability assistance or other kinds of academic assistance.
- Counselors are available in our Counseling and Advising Center for academic advisement to help you plan a course of study. We also offer transfer counseling, career counseling and personal counseling.
- The Library provides a collection of approximately 38,000 items including: videos, DVDs and periodicals. A number of workstations provide access to subscription electronic databases.
- We understand the cost of college can be intimidating. Although we offer one of the top values in education, many of our students still find it helpful to stop by our Financial Aid Office and take advantage of the many resources available. - Tips for success:
- Go to class.
- Ask questions.
- Take notes.
- For every hour you spend in class, you need to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours studying outside of class.
- Stay healthy.
- Use the Library.
- Learn to use a computer wisely.
- Get to know your professor.
- Visit with your advisor.
- See a Counselor to Resolve your Personal Career, and Academic Issues.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Learn to manage your time.
