The Public Safety Training Academy at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) will be hosting their annual Fire Academy for students completing grades 9-12. From Monday, July 9th to Friday, July 13th, students will get hands on experience in “the many facets of fire service.” Although the schedule for this year have yet to be announced, students in past years have visited a 9-1-1 dispatch center, the New Jersey Forest Fire ground headquarters, the New Jersey Forest Fire Aerial Operations and a forest fire observation tower. Special guests to the academy list the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, the Sussex County Haz Mat team, and the County Sheriff Incident Command Unit.
For $40, the program includes a b-b-q lunch on the last day of class and two t-shirts. All gear and supplies are provided, students need only wear sturdy shoes and “rugged” clothing. Upon completing the academy, a graduation ceremony will be held for participants, friends and family. To register, or for more information, please call the Public Safety Training Academy at (973) 948-7897.
