To lead off its 2012-13 season, The Art Gallery at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) presents an exhibition of beautiful and compelling oil paintings and ink drawings by emerging artist Saydi Kaufman. The exhibition, entitled Deities, consists of portraits of mythical beings created in the artist’s own imagination. The work explores abstract portraiture that contemplates the boundaries between abstraction and figuration.

Saydi Kaufman was born in Tarpon Springs, Florida and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Montclair State University where she now teaches painting and Graduate Independent Study. She maintains a studio in Passaic, New Jersey.

The exhibition in the Art Gallery in Building C runs from September 4 through October 5, 2012. The gallery is open during school hours Monday through Friday from nine to five and on Saturday from nine to noon. Admission is free. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception in the gallery on Friday, September 7 from 6 to 8pm.
