Maggie Davenport will be attending the 2013 National Association for Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS) Celebration after having been named Sussex County Community College’s (SCCC) Woman of the Year. The ceremony will be held on January 27th at Seton Hall University and will recognize nominated female athletes from high schools, two-year colleges, and four-year institutions in New Jersey to choose one overall female to honor. The association has been around since 1899 progressing the athletic opportunities for women such as in school funding of female teams. They also host the National Girls and Women in Sports Day, this year on February 6th.
Maggie, a 2011 graduate of Sussex County Technical School, has participated in three different sports at SCCC. She has shown much loyalty and dedication by contributing to the sports of soccer, basketball, and softball. In addition to devoting the necessary time needed to compete in three sports, Maggie has also excelled in the classroom.
She has been recognized to the Region XIX All Academic Team twice, The Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Academic Team three times, and invited to the Breakfast of Champions twice. Selection to the Region XIX Team requires a minimum GPA of 3.25 during the semester of participation with that sport, and the GSAC Team requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the semester of participation. The Breakfast of Champions is an annual event held at SCCC for student athletes who participate in athletics while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
