The Summer Fire Academy at the Sussex County Public Safety Training Academy is a mix of learning and fun to achieve the goals of introducing the students to the many facets of the fire service. Through class-room training, field trips, guest speakers and fire ground activities, the student is exposed first hand to possible career choices as well as volunteer options.

The exact schedule for 2014 is now being confirmed – students in the past visited a 9-1-1 dispatch center, the New Jersey Forest Fire Ground Headquarters in Andover Borough and the New Jersey Forest Fire Aerial Operations in Andover Township, as well as a Forest Fire observation tower.

The program also includes guest speakers from area organizations, some of which have included: the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, The Sussex County Haz-Mat team and the County Sheriff Incident Command Unit.

A graduation ceremony will be held on the last day of the program.
