Intro to Fire Science at Hopatcong High School

Northwest New Jersey has one of the state’s strongest volunteer fire department communities and now, individuals, volunteers and others looking to delve into the “fire business” on a deeper level can take part in a new course offered through Sussex County Community College at Hopatcong High School.

Introduction to Fire Science is part of the College’s ongoing partnership program with Hopatcong High School to bring educational opportunities to the Greater Community.

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of fire protection engineering. It is a study of fire hazards and controlling mechanisms, detection and alarm systems, fire behavior and the physical and chemical effects of combustion upon a single dwelling to problem areas such as high-rise buildings.

Intro to Fire Science will be held at Hopatcong High School, February 27–May 12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.  For more information contact program coordinator, William McGovern at 973-300-2182 or email wmcgovern@sussex.edu.
