Alternative Approaches to Pain Management in Older Adults

The Center for Prevention and Counseling is excited to announce a new prevention initiative addressing Alternative Approaches to Pain Management in Older Adults. Sussex County residents are invited to the inaugural event “Your Health and You … What You Need to Know About Taking Control of Your Total Wellness,” on Tuesday, April 24th 2018 from 12pm to 3pm. This event will be held at the Sussex County Community College, Performing Arts Center Atrium and Theater, in cooperation with the Senior Life Center and Sussex County Division of Senior Services.

Featured speakers include Dr. Brutico, Emergency Department Medical Director at Newton Medical Center and Sussex County Prosecutor, Francis A. Koch who will provide participants with information such as understanding trends, laws and resources as it pertains to pain management in older adults; learning about tools and resources available to help navigate the path to wellness. Newton Police Department will be on hand to provide an opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications and over-the-counter medications.  Participants are highly encouraged to bring their unused, unwanted or expired prescription or over-the-counter medications to properly dispose of.  This event also includes a complimentary lunch.

As our country is in the midst of a health crisis due to opioid abuse and misuse, it is important to address all ages with prevention efforts to reduce the increase in use and misuse of prescription medication. Therefore, in response to this need, the Center for Prevention and Counseling is pleased take on a prevention initiative to address Alternative Approaches to Pain Management in Older Adults to enhance efforts to address a spectrum of ages.
