Work with a partner

  • Each of you should make a different polygon on the circular side of your geoboard. Make polygons using only the pegs on the circle.
  • Pick a vertex and make as many diagonals as you can from that vertex.
  • Record your polygon and the diagonals you made on circular geodot paper. Count how many sides are in your polygon and how many diagonals you made. Record this information.
  • Determine the total number of diagonals in the polygon. Be ready to explain how you did this.
  • Repeat this process, each time making a polygon that has a different number of sides.
  • Look for patterns and be ready to talk about what you noticed.
