The Art Gallery

"My commitment to students goes far beyond the classroom. It serves as the basis for my own life and self-esteem."
The Associate of Fine Arts Degree Program offers degrees in Studio Art (painting, drawing), Photography (black and white and digital), and Design (interior, fashion, industrial) and is committed to developing in each art major the capacity for creative problem solving in making art. The program nurtures artistic freedom and creativity while developing a strong sense of artistic discipline. We believe that contemporary expression in art requires grounding not just in studio practice but also in the rigorous study of various image making traditions and cultures. The curriculum is designed to lead students through a series of visual and intellectual challenges and to encourage a mastery of various mediums. To become tomorrow’s visionary requires an understanding of one’s own time and place in history through exploring the infinite possibilities of individual experience.
Students who earn an Associate in Fine Arts often pursue careers in the fields of fine art photography, studio arts, interior design and fashion.
The Studio Arts AFA is designed for students who wish to transfer into B.F.A. degree programs. Note, the statewide transfer agreement does not apply to the AFA degrees. Be sure to consult with a counselor to review your goals.
Sussex County Community College has a long tradition of supporting the arts. We have an Art Gallery on campus that features exhibits from students, alumni, faculty and local artists. Additionally, our Performing Arts Center has become the flagship theater in Northwest New Jersey presenting entertainment that engages, excites, provokes and inspires both artists and audiences. Art is also exhibited in the Atrium outside of the Performing Arts Center.
