Home Health Aide

Certified Home-maker Home Health Aides (CHHAs) in New Jersey help elderly, convalescent or disabled persons live in their own homes instead of health care facilities. CHHAs work for home care agencies and hospice organization providing care to patients. CHHAs provide hands-on health-related care by helping patients bathe, dress and eat. CHHA duties also include range-of-motion exercises, foot care and taking the patient’s temperature, pulse and respiration rate. CHHAs also provide care to patients by helping them into and out of bed, walking, escorting them to medical appointments.

SCCC’s 7- week CHHA program meets the requirements of the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Students are certified by NJ Board of Nursing after successful completion of the 76-hour training program, competency evaluations, criminal background investigation and employment with a licensed NJ Home Care agency.

This program does not qualify for assistance through the financial aid office, but individuals may qualify for grants or scholarships through other sources. To learn more about the options available to you, please contact the Intake Coordinator at (973) 300-2149.



Career Options

CHHAs work for Home Care agencies and hospice organizations providing hands-on care to patients in their homes. The Occupational Information Network classifies CHHA as an “in demand” occupation.
