Dr. Julie McWilliams
"My commitment to students goes far beyond the classroom. It serves as the basis for my own life and self-esteem."
At SCCC we offer an Associate of Fine Arts in Studio Arts. We are committed to developing in each art major the capacity for creative problem solving in making art. Our program nurtures artistic freedom and creativity while developing a strong sense of artistic discipline. We believe that contemporary expression in art requires grounding not just in studio practice but also in the rigorous study of various image making traditions and cultures. The curriculum is designed to lead students through a series of visual and intellectual challenges and to encourage a mastery of various mediums. To become tomorrow’s visionary requires an understanding of one’s own time and place in history through exploring the infinite possibilities of individual experience.
Students who earn an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) in Studio Arts often pursue careers in studio arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics), Art Education, Art History and Art Therapy.
The Studio Arts A.F.A. is designed for students who wish to transfer into B.F.A. degree programs. Note, the statewide transfer agreement does not apply to the A.F.A. degrees. Be sure to consult with a counselor to review your goals.
