Job Description

Accountant - Performs professional accounting work of a complex nature. Thoroughly understands institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and restrictions. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature. Advises management regarding the effective use of resources and methods to maximize earnings. Monitors records of past and present operations. May serve as a project leader on special projects. Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent plus 4-5 years’ accounting experience. 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet accounts for college and foundation.
  2. Analyze and maintain general ledger accounts, prepare appropriate journal entries, and follow up on outstanding issues.
  3. Perform reconciliation of select payroll data reports to the payroll related general ledger accounts in CARS.
  4. Fixed assets grant accounting including billing and analysis of chapter 12, ELF, Securing our children’s future and other state, federal and capital investment grants.
  5. Assist the Director of Finance in the preparation with monthly financial statements and year-end audit working papers including assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses.
  6. Prepares monthly, interim, and final reports for grants
  7. Monitors spending on grants. Communicates progress of spending to grant administrators
  8. Assist in preparation of grant budgets and operating budgets.
  9. Maintains the College credit cards.
  10. Accounts payable backup.
  11. Assists the purchasing manager with reconciliation of encumbrances.
  12. Assists the Chief budget officer prepare for the annual budget process and board of school estimate budget.
  13. All other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred

Essential Skills

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills must be demonstrated
  • Computer proficiency and high competency with Excel, Word & Power Point
  • Ability to function in a team environment

Salary:  $53,000-$55,000  annually
