Job Description

This position is critical to the relaunch of the college’s cafeteria as an internal operation.

They will assist in the management and operations of the Skylander Cafe and in collaboration with the Culinary Institute.

This staff member must have a strong demonstrated background in professional kitchen operations.

  • Strong competency using a knife for food preparation.
  • Orientation using various pieces of commercial cooking equipment.
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills during food production.

Assist in food service preparation, event set-up, record keeping, inventory, purchasing, maintenance requests and retail operations.

Provide additional support to operations of the Culinary Institute.

  1. Support the mission of the college and the department.
  2. Assist in the execution of foodservice production, operations, retail and other events.
  3. Strong competency using a knife for food preparation
  4. Orientation using various pieces of commercial cooking equipment.
  5. Excellent organizational & time management skills during food production.
  6. Participate in overall kitchen organization and sanitation.
  7. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift 35# comfortably.
  8. Help manage hourly employees, some of which may be students.
  9. Assist in purchasing, receiving, inventory management & record keeping.
  10. Support department operations, department-expansion and collaboration within the department as well as with cross-departmental initiatives.
  11. Assist in all aspects of special events including nights/weekends.

Education:

  • A Culinary Arts degree, preferred
  • ServSafe Management Certification.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of students found in a community college environment with emphasis on student mentorship and retention.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Chef or Cook of at least 2 years.
  • Professional level knowledge of industry standards & techniques.
  • Strong ability of food production to a high standard.
  • A deep appreciation, understanding, tolerance, and commitment to free speech and diversity in an academic organization.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment concerning College policies and procedures.
  • A desire and aptitude to remain current in the latest evolutions in the industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of POS/Reservations technology.
  • Passionate about assisting students.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public in a professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management & employee management skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift 35# comfortably.
  • Physical Requirements: This position requires in-person presence on campus, at regional and state-wide meetings, and at various locations throughout the county and surrounding areas in order to carry out duties.   

Salary:

$44,200.00 per year
