Job Description

The Coordinator of Student Engagement and Inclusion works as a leader and as a liaison between the student body, and the faculty, staff and administration, with the goal of enriching all students’ experience at SCCC by providing mindful campus life programming that supports academic learning outcomes for both day, evening and weekend events as needed. Serving as the College’s DEI Officer, this person will work in conjunction with Advising, Admissions, Athletics, Campus Life, and Human Resources, in providing support, social programming, individual mentoring, and networking to the campus community by providing oversight for initiatives connected to diversity, equity and inclusion needs for the campus. 

  1. Dedicates creative energy to the planning and execution of innovative and inclusive student engagement programming.
  2. Responds to the needs of the campus community around issues of diversity and inclusion.
  3. Interacts with faculty, administrators and staff, external organizations and the general public as required to efficiently facilitate student affairs operations and services.
  4. Provides direct supervisory oversight of the Student Ambassador Program; including bi-annual interview and training process, manages student hours; campus-wide promotion; develops and provides leadership and skill-building opportunities, as well as any community trainees, part-time employees, or FWS students assigned to areas of supervisory span.
  5. In collaboration with Veteran and International student support staff, provides for campus life-related activities and events to serve the social dimension for both groups in order for those students to feel connected to the larger institution in a meaningful way.
  6. Advises the Student Government Association; oversees all aspects of the annual student election process; provides leadership opportunities and all oversight of officers, events, and outcome assessments.
  7. Oversees all student clubs and organizations; club budget reviews and allocations.
  8. Provides leadership responsibility over the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) honor societies. Will represent the college at any required external meetings
  9. Provides supplementary presentations for students in related Cleary Act and Title IX topics as part of their overall student engagement programming.
  10. Coordinates with other departments and manages all components of the commencement ceremony to ensure campus-wide communication; serves as point-person for all commencement activities.
  11. Coordinates annual Student Handbook updates to ensure college-wide departmental changes have been included, proof-read and made ready for print and distribution.
  12. Coordinates and executes New Student Orientation in collaboration with various college and community partners.
  13. Participates in a variety of recruitment and retention initiatives and events, including those related to the onboarding of new students and various retention strategies (e.g. SOAR, Open House events, etc.)
  14. Serves productively on a variety of committees as assigned (e.g. Governance Committees, SEG).
  15. Provides education and trainings to foster dialogue for an inclusive environment.
  16. Chairs the Council on Sustained Dialogue Committee.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND DISPOSITIONS:

  1. A minimum of five-seven years of college work-environment experience.
  2. Developed skill in managing many different types of tasks.
  3. Ability to work with, and assist students who possess a diversity of views. Must embrace diversity and strive to always prioritize the need to create a sense of belongingness for all SCCC students, staff and faculty.
  4. An appreciation for the role that civic engagement plays in the student experience.
  5. An interest in people and an outwardly expressed belief in the potentials of all.

 

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a higher education environment with a focus on student services.
  • Experience with using and navigating within an ERP/student database system.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience at a comprehensive Community College.

Salary:  $60,000 per year
