Job Description
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Administrative Services, the Director of Campus Safety & Security is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the campus, college property, faculty, staff, students, and members of the community who enter the College campus. This position is charged with directing the work of campus security officers in a manner consistent with the environment of the College and is charged with enforcing all College security policies and SOPs.
- Manages and directs all college safety & security activities; manages security coverage for College special events and develops service contact specifications in accordance with College needs, and in consultation with the President’s Office, as appropriate
- Plans, administers and directs the overall management of the College security function: preparing the annual budget, ascertaining staffing level needs and deploying staff accordingly, determining appropriate use of service, identifying suitable resource utilization, etc.
- Prepares comprehensive security operations plans; manages ongoing assessments of the status of the college's entire campus security program.
- Maintains and updates Emergency Management Plans in accordance with College specific guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Prepares and distributes information in accordance with Clery Act Guidelines.
- Records and compiles criminal and security incident statistics
- Maintains the College-wide reports system. Provides daily incident reports to the Vice President of Finance & Administrative Services
- Supervises security supervisory personnel; directs the performance of all security on campus, using College-established standards and forms.
- Supervises transportation personnel; directs the performance of all shuttle and bus drivers on campus, using College-established standards and forms.
- Makes campus security resource allocation decisions in accordance with presidential directives for campus security.
- Directs the investigation of criminal and/or violent incidents occurring on campus.
- Establishes and maintains a working relationship with local Newton Police Department and Sussex County Sherriff’s Department; coordinates campus security with outside law enforcement activities when a college event requires a joint enforcement effort.
- Identifies campus crime trends based on statistical data.
- Directs, recruits and selects a workforce that reflects the diversity of the College community and ensures a work environment respectful of differences.
- Oversee risk management and loss prevention activities, compliance with fire safety and emergency preparedness.
- Oversee improvements planned for security systems such as video monitoring, panic system, building access system and fire alarm system.
- Oversee investigations, threat assessment and response, and fleet management.
- Ensure that the department works closely with Title IX Coordinator regarding mandated enforcement of education requirements, safety interim measures and investigative support.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

EDUCATION:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and six (6) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial and supervisory experience
OR
A high school diploma or GED and ten (10) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial and supervisory experience
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- 6-10+ years of related security work experience
- At least 3 years of managerial and supervisory experience
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to prioritize work and consistently meet deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple tasks running simultaneously
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem solving
- Strong ability to operate typical office computer programs as well as other online programs
- Strong interpersonal skills coupled with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Professional law enforcement experience
Salary: $80,000
