Job Description

This is a 12-month administrative and teaching position. This position is needed to coordinate all aspects of our optics technology degree program including staffing, evaluation of faculty, and supervision of teaching staff. Heavy recruiting activities and the development of strong retention measures are also expected with this role. This position requires that the successful candidate teach a minimum of 15 credits per year, (6 credits in each of the fall and spring semesters, as well as at least 3 credits in the summer). Teaching may include day and evening classes. Other duties include scheduling/hiring/evaluating/supervising adjuncts, participating in any student appeal processes related to optics courses, curriculum development, negotiation of transfer/articulation agreements with four-year institutions, development of partnerships with local businesses, development/supervision of internship students, and all assessment-related duties for this program.

This individual will also be in charge of overseeing the optics technology laboratory operations and maintenance. The major responsibilities include: organize and maintain the equipment, machines, rooms, supplies; coordinate the purchase of equipment and replacement of consumable supplies; maintain and analyze records and data in a computer database pertaining to the equipment and supplies; offer instruction and training to faculty and students on the safe use of the equipment; develop written manuals, protocols, and forms related to the equipment in the Department.

The College’s primary goal is to have optics courses assigned to the Supervisor, however, when there are not a sufficient number of courses in that specific discipline, the College has the right to assign the supervisor to other courses that they have been deemed sufficiently credentialed for to assure they are meeting their teaching load.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Optical Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Relevant work experience related to the optics program and laboratory operations.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use computer database management applications.
  • Ability to collect and statistically analyze data.
  • Evidence of strong organizational and project management skills required.
  • Ability to interact with students at the secondary level and effectively promote SCCC's optics program required.
  • Optics laboratory experience required.

Salary:

$60,000 per year.
