Job Description

Services the adult education community on a county and area wide basis by providing non-credit literacy, numeracy, basic skills, workforce readiness and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation instruction under the Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education single year grant awards from the NJ Department of Labor (NJDOL).

  1. Conducts skills and knowledge assessments on all prospective students through use of Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS).
  2. Develops Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) based on CASAS test scores and student performance. Conducts all instruction according to IEP’s and in compliance with grant required activity, implements plans for each educational functioning level.  Develops appropriate curriculum and selects appropriate learning materials, software and resources in line with changes to the HSE curriculum and exam and to K-12 state and national education standards.
  3. Instructs students enrolled in the ABE/HSE Program according to WIOA Title II guidelines; monitors academic progress; reviews and revises IEPs.
  4. Provides comprehensive basic skills and HSE instruction in Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies. Provides remote, in class and hybrid instruction as appropriate.
  5. Provides essential computer skills instruction including the use of online software.
  6. Maintains accurate and comprehensive student records with all state mandated forms for inclusion in the official grant reports as well as monitoring by the state.
  7. Maintains and develops ABE/HSE program policies and procedures.
  8. Attends all mandatory training, meetings, workshops and professional development as determined by supervisor. Stays current with new developments and innovations in Adult Education
  9. Provides all necessary narrative and data on a timely basis to fulfill grant application and reporting requirements.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in one or more of the following areas: Education, Adult Education, Special Education, Math, English, Science

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in education or an instructional setting including experience in test administration and diagnostic interpretation
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Strong math, writing, and literacy skills
  • Computer skills – Proficient with a range of hardware and software (including Zoom, AZTEC online, CASAS, Microsoft Office, CANVAS) for instruction and data management.
  • Well organized, detail oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
  • Ability to travel independently within NJ to attend meetings/trainings

Salary:  $30.00 per hour
