Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Supports students enrolled in the Sussex County Community College Adult Transition Program, focusing on post-secondary and vocational support.
  • Assist clients to discover and overcome their barriers and set goals
  • Guide students in learning to complete job tasks
  • Communicate with students to understand their goals and ambitions
  • Assess the strengths of individuals and teach them to use them effectively
  • Assist with developing opportunities for exploration into both vocational and post-secondary options.
  • Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities using person-centered approaches.
  • Work collectively with faculty and staff to coordinate opportunities for each student.
  • Provide, when needed, coverage for the instructor

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Previous experience working with students and adults with disabilities.
  • Two or more years of experience in Supported Employment
  • The Boggs Center Employment Specialist Training 1-4 (if not current, must be obtained within the first 30 day)
  • Minimum of Associates degree/Bachelors Preferred
  • Driver’s license required

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • In-depth knowledge of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Department of Developmental Disabilities fee for service.
  • Certified Employment Support Professional Certificate (CESP)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to anticipate a problem and develop strategies in advance
  • Agility in multi-tasking
  • Excellent organizational skills
