Job Description

Part-time, grant funded ESOL Conversation Class Instructor. Serves the adult education community across the county and surrounding areas by providing non-credit classes focused on conversation skills, speaking/listening skills and civics education. The position is funded through the Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education single year grant awards from the NJ Department of Labor (NJDOL).

  1. Uses a range of teaching techniques to meet student needs.
  2. Adapts speaking and listening activities for different levels of English language proficiency.
  3. Selects course textbooks, reading materials, and engaging topics to encourage student participation.
  4. Provides remote, in class, and hybrid instruction as needed.
  5. Creates a safe and supportive space for open discussions and positive interactions.
  6. Maintains accurate student records and completes state-required forms for grant reports and state monitoring.
  7. Tracks and inputs daily attendance hours.
  8. Attends all meetings and professional development trainings to fulfill grant requirements.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or TESOL Certification required.
  • Master’s Degree in TESL, ESOL, Linguistics or related discipline, preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
  • Knowledge and experience in ESL education or an instructional setting.
  • Computer Skills – Proficient with a range of hardware and software for instruction and data management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player.
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
  • Ability to travel independently within NJ to attend meetings/trainings.

Salary:  $30.00 per hour
