Job Description
The Facilities Summer Worker provides seasonal support to the facilities team by assisting with general maintenance, custodial duties, landscaping, and minor repairs across campus. This position is ideal for students or individuals seeking hands-on experience in facility operations while contributing to a safe and well-maintained campus environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Assist with minor building repairs, including painting, patching walls, and replacing fixtures.
- Support basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC maintenance under supervision.
- Move and assemble furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
Groundskeeping & Landscaping
- Mow lawns, trim hedges, water plants, and remove weeds to maintain campus appearance.
- Assist with outdoor clean-up, including trash removal and sidewalk maintenance.
- Support seasonal tasks such as mulching, planting, and power washing.
Custodial & Cleaning Duties
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling bins across campus.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies as needed.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment as required.
- Report hazards, damages, or needed repairs to the facilities supervisor.
- Assist in setting up for campus events and activities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be at least 18 years old or meet the minimum working age requirement.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to and from the college campus.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in custodial, maintenance, or landscaping work.
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
- Enrollment as a student at Sussex County Community College or another institution.
Working Conditions
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional evening or weekend shifts for special projects.
- Work Environment: Primarily outdoors or in campus buildings, with exposure to heat, rain, and other weather conditions.
- Duration: Seasonal (typically May–August or as needed).
Salary: $15.49 per hour
