Job Description
The Head Football Coach is responsible for preparing and training the football team to perform competitively throughout the season. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of the sport, excellent motivational skills, and the ability to foster teamwork.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Build a successful football program in a manner consistent with the principles and goals of the institutional Athletic Department Mission Statement;
- Work collaboratively with departmental colleagues and institutional colleagues;
- Collaborate with other coaches on a daily basis;
- Direct coaching activities during practice and competition;
- Prioritize and organize recruitment activities for the program;
- Abide by the rules, regulations and philosophies of the College as well as any affiliation rules and regulations which may be applicable to the sport;
- Promote a culture of compliance with NJCAA, conference and institutional regulations;
- Prioritize student-athletes in academic success and overall campus experience;
- Follow and abide by all safety rules and regulations;
- Other duties as assigned
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Program Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the football program, aligning with the values of Sussex County Community College and NJCAA Division I principles;
- Oversee the planning, organization, and implementation of practices, game strategies, and training sessions;
- Develop a competitive and inclusive team culture that prioritizes student-athlete success both on and off the field; Recruitment & Retention
- Lead recruitment efforts to attract talented student-athletes who are a strong fit academically, athletically, and culturally with the college;
- Collaborate with the admissions department and maintain relationships with high school coaches, clubs, and potential recruits to build a diverse and competitive roster; Mentorship & Student Development
- Foster the personal development of student-athletes by promoting leadership, discipline, teamwork, and resilience;
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, guiding student-athletes in maintaining academic standards, community involvement, and sportsmanship; Game & Practice Preparation
- Design and implement effective training programs, practices, and game plans that maximize player development and team performance;
- Analyze and evaluate game footage, individual performance, and team strategies, using data to make informed adjustments to improve outcomes; Administrative Responsibilities Manage the football program's operational budget, including travel, equipment, and facility expenses;
- Ensure compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, and regulations;
- Coordinate with athletic administration and suppo1i staff to maintain schedules, transpo1tation, and logistical Community & Alumni Engagement
Qualifications:
Previous playing/coaching of respective sport preferred. Knowledge of rules associated with sports is required. A valid driver’s license is required.

Salary: $7,500.00 per season
