Job Description

THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS AT SUSSEX COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

 

1.

Assist with seasonal planning, planting, cultivating, harvesting and distributing of produce grown at the Student Farm

2.

Coordinate and plan the needs of SCCC Culinary Institute with its Supervisor, Martin Kester

3.

Use shovels, rakes, hand tools and motorized farm equipment such as a tractor, mowers and string trimmer.

4.

Clean, oil and sharpen equipment such as shovels, pruners, etc.

5.

Small construction projects and assembling tools.

6.

Assist in coordinating and facilitating volunteer work parties, staffing farm stand, connecting with LocalShare.

7.

Follow operating procedures, use protective gear when needed and work safely.

 

 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE – Successful candidates are motivated individual with a career interest in the field of agriculture or horticulture. Candidates must be willing to learn skills in farming and must take direction well.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS – Successful candidates will be able to do the following to deliver the objectives of the position:

  • Work motivated, dependable and able to work independently and on a team
  • Be physically able to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Able to lift 35 pounds
  • Communicate as part of a team to ensure high-quality work
  • Communicate positively with our faculty and students
  • Willing to assist in coordinating and facilitating volunteer work parties, staffing farm stand, connecting with LocalShare.

 

Salary:  12.00 per hour/  10-20 hours per week
