Job Description


Sussex County Community College is currently seeking Peer Writing Consultants to assist students through the writing process.  They will listen, offer advice, and help create a strategy for the student to complete the assignment. 

Main Duties:

The consultant will use the student's writing assignment to help the student analyze the assignment, and then help create a strategy for completing the assignment during all states of the writing process. 

The consultant will assist students with grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization strategies so that the students will be able to edit and /or proofread their writing assignments on their own.

The consultant will take contemporaneous notes during the coaching session and email the notes to the student, the Coordinator of the Writing Center, and the student's professor. 

The consultant will register new students to the writing center database and keep track of the student's session each time they come to the Writing Center. 

The consultant should be proficient in academic writing as well as be familiar with MLS, APA, and Chicago Manual formatting. 



Writing consultants will be hired based on their performance in ENGL 101/102 and will be required to submit a resume and writing sample in order to be considered for the position. 



High school Diploma or GED equivalent.

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
