SCCC Celebrates Career & Technical Education Month

Students in hands on training programs.Sussex County Community College (SCCC) proudly joins the nation in celebrating Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month throughout February. This month-long observance honors the achievements and contributions of CTE students, educators, and programs that prepare individuals for successful careers in a variety of high-demand industries.

CTE Month highlights the importance of vocational training in shaping the workforce and creating opportunities for students to pursue career pathways in fields such as healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, and skilled trades. At SCCC, CTE programs are designed to equip students with the hands-on experience and technical skills necessary for in-demand occupations.

“We are excited to celebrate Career and Technical Education Month at SCCC, as it underscores our commitment to providing students with high-quality, career-focused education that helps them thrive in the workforce,” said Dr. Cory Homer, Interim President of Sussex County Community College. “In growing our partnership with the Sussex County Technical School (SCTS), we will ensure that our local industries within Sussex County have a consistent, skilled workforce and that our students are prepared for the fast-changing demands of today’s job market.”

Through occupational advisory boards and partnerships with local businesses and industries, students gain real-world experience. Many programs also offer opportunities for internships and apprenticeships, giving students a competitive edge when they graduate.

“CTE is a powerful tool for students to gain the skills and experience they need to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving job market,” said Jason Fruge, Dean of Technical Occupations. “By promoting CTE Month, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of these programs and encourage more individuals to consider the wide range of career options available through technical education.”
