Kula Named SCCC Foundation Executive Director

An individual with extensive ties to the Sussex County community - and fundraising background - has been named the Executive Director of the Sussex County Community College Foundation.

Stan Kula is the perfect choice, according to Sussex President Jon Connolly.

“As a Sussex County resident for over 20 years, and one who has served as a public servant, I believe that Stan will be as much of an asset to our College as he is to our community,” said Sussex President Jon H. Connolly.

For his part, Kula is “absolutely thrilled” to bring his expertise to the Sussex Foundation and become a member of the president’s executive team. The College Foundation is the fundraising branch of the college, which supports student scholarships and programming, infrastructure, and expansion.

“A successful foundation is one that provides the resources for an organization to do more than it ever imagined possible,” said Kula, who is a Certified Fundraising Executive through CFRE International with 27 years’ experience working in higher education fundraising. He has held roles at Yale University and Centenary University, among other institutions.

Locally, Kula has been a reliable public figure in Sussex County since moving here in 2000. He has served as mayor on the Hardyston Township Council, sharing his knowledge on several committees over the years.

Kula stood out in the search for a new Executive Director in many ways, but in great part for his community-based approach to fundraising.

“Stan values a collaborative approach to fundraising and enjoys working with faculty, staff, and administration to provide students with the support necessary to complete their academic endeavors,” said Connolly.

The first goal of the new Executive Director was to assess which tools the foundation had at hand. He now plans to work with President Connolly and the Foundation board to not only set fundraising goals but to establish an attainable plan to get them there.

With such a supportive community, Kula is positive that the only direction to go is up.

“Everyone at Sussex cares so much for the students and is committed to their success,” Kula said of faculty, staff, students, and volunteers. “I can’t wait to share their stories with community leaders, local businesses, friends, and our supporters!”
