Sussex County Community College’s student literary magazine, Idiom & Image, has been selected to receive the rank of Excellent in the 2023 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) program.

NCTE’s REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. According to REALM, “SCCC’s magazine is a fine example of this mission in action, and the REALM committee looks forward to seeing future publications from your College.”

“It is a delight to celebrate the accomplishment of SCCC’s students,” responded Anita Collings, faculty advisor. “The 2023 Idiom and Image Magazine was recognized nationally and internationally for our student excellence in design and creative writing. It is an honor to work with talented students who are leading the way professionally in their fields.”

Additionally, the Magazine was recently recognized for design excellence by Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) in the American Graphic Design Awards (TM). SCCC's 2023 edition of Idiom & Image, designed by graphic design student, Elias Hansen (AAS'23), was selected as a winner for outstanding design from among 8,000 entries in the 60th GDUSA Design Awards competition.

Idiom & Image, published since 1992, is SCCC's award-winning literary and arts magazine.
