Dr. Homer Elected to NACEP Research Commission

9/29/2023 12:00:00 PM

Sussex County Community College is pleased to announce that Dr. Cory Homer has been elected as the representative for the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) Research Commission, District 1.

NACEP is the accrediting body for Concurrent enrollment partnerships between high schools and colleges. They ensure courses offered by the high schools are as rigorous as courses offered in college, providing a seamless transfer into college.

Dr. Homer, the Vice President of Student Success and Institutional Effectiveness at SCCC will serve a two-year term of service and continue the advancement of the research portion of the organization. He has been instrumental in the establishment of the NACEP accreditation at SCCC.

NACEP was established in 1999 by a group of practitioners who found each other on the periphery of other education conferences, discussing their work to connect college and high school through early access to college courses for high school students. The result of dual and concurrent enrollment is incredibly unique in education, and these early champions built connections for detailed program discussions and mutual support. Early goals were seeking commonalities in their practice approach and building a practitioner community. NACEP has worked to make connections and national alignment around best practices. These remain the two essential pillars of their work as an organization.

Advocacy, Engagement, and Research groups are key in the NACEP organization. The commissioners will review, score, and award research grants, contribute to monthly spotlights, support workshops, and submit research and other publications of inclusion into the Resouce Center.

Students looking to enroll in Concurrent classes at their high school should speak with their Guidance Counselor. For further information, contact SCCC Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator Julie Fliegel at cep@sussex.edu.
