The Sussex County Community College Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received a $15,000 grant from the Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust to support the installation of a new lighting system for the Student Center Theater. The Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust supports nonprofit organizations in New Jersey.

At SCCC, the performing arts are the essence of creativity and community. The College is committed to fostering an environment where students can nurture their artistic vision, improve their technical skills, and showcase their talents to audiences both on campus and in the wider community. However, the current lighting system of the Student Center Theater has become outdated, constraining the safety, quality, and creative potential of performances.

With this generous funding, SCCC will be able to make a necessary investment in state-of-the-art, energy-efficient lighting. This upgrade will not only bring productions to a professional standard but also revolutionize the theater experience for students and audiences. It will enhance the educational value of hands-on training, broaden the artistic possibilities for directors and performers, and ensure the theater remains a vibrant center for cultural life in the community.

“We are deeply grateful to the Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust for their support,” said Dr. Cory Homer, SCCC president.  “This investment not only enriches the educational experience for our students but also strengthens the cultural opportunities we can offer to our community.”

These upgrades will not only benefit our students and the college community but also strengthen our ties with local arts organizations. This will lead to an expansion of our programming and create more opportunities for cultural engagement across Sussex County.

This project is more than just about new equipment; it's a long-term investment in the arts, in student success, and in the cultural vitality of the region. It's a commitment to the future of the performing arts at SCCC.
