Adding athletic talent to the Sussex Skylanders’ rosters was the intent of Sussex County Community College’s first Athletic Signing Day. The College held the event on National Signing Day, Wednesday, February 5. Traditionally the event is held the first week of February, the day a high school senior can commit and sign a National Letter of Intent to play in college.

The meet and greet event was open to all new recruits and their parents. Over 27 students from many area high schools signed their Letter of Intent to play for Sussex. With the addition of a new football, wrestling and women’s lacrosse program, students committed to the College for the fall season. These teams will be added to the already seven teams at the College that play in NJCAA Region XIX.

“We are excited to have such a talented group of students committing to play football for our upcoming season,” stated Todd Poltersdorf, Admissions Director and new head football coach. “Having the first football program at the community college level in the state of New Jersey is a great accomplishment. We are looking to bring students from many area high schools who have a passion for playing this sport.”

Dr. Jon Connolly, president of SCCC, welcomed guests and spoke of the importance of teamwork and commitment and dedication both on the field and in the classroom. John Kuntz, Sussex athletic director, also shared his excitement on having these recruits at the College.

The College also began its first eSports team this past fall.
