Social Worker Careers in High Demand

1/9/2023 1:03:42 PM

Helping others find direction and purpose in life can be rewarding and fulfilling. For individuals with a passion for equality and justice, becoming a social worker can be the best direction for a future career.

Social workers aid individuals, families, and groups to cope with problems that disrupt their lives. They practice in various settings, such as group homes, shelters, hospitals, mental health facilities, schools, and rehabilitation centers.

Through its Human Services Program, Sussex County Community College can set students on the right path to becoming social workers. Students will earn an associate degree and transfer to a bachelor’s degree in social work at a four-year institution. The cost savings starting at Sussex are substantial.

In an article written by Mary Ann Koruth on NorthJersey.com, there is a 30- to 60-day wait time for individuals who seek private counseling and a three- to five-month wait to see an agency therapist, making the demand for this profession high.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the occupation of a social worker is expected to grow by 9 percent from 2021 through 2031.

SCCC is accepting applications for the spring semester, set to begin on January 23rd.  Visit sussex.edu/spring to apply and get started.
