Sussex announces the hiring of Steve Manitta as their new Men’s Lacrosse Coach. Manitta will begin his duties immediately and will field a team this coming spring with a ten game schedule.

Manitta is an accomplished and recognized Lax coach. He started his coaching career at Roxbury HS in 1993 and from there moved on to build Chatham HS into a Lacrosse state powerhouse for nine years. In many of those years, Chatham was ranked in the top 20, if not the top 10 in Lacrosse in the state of NJ.

In 2010, Manitta moved on to Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY and started the Lax program where he was named  East Coast Conference 2011 Coach of the Year. In 2013 he took over as Head Coach at Manhattan College, a Division I Lacrosse program and led them to a second place finish in the MAAC in 2014. From 2015-17 Steve assisted at Drew University in Madison, NJ and was named as the 2017 Landmark Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.

“Steve Manitta is just what we need to start our program here at Sussex,” stated John Kuntz, SCCC athletic director. “He is an accomplished coach that has been successful where ever he has coached, and we are pleased to have him here at Sussex. I am confident that Steve will build Sussex into a two-year college lacrosse program to be reckoned with in a very short time, not only around the state but at the national level as well.”
