A paper copy will be mailed to your address on file on January 31st. An electronic copy is available through your Online Payment Student Account. Log in with your student ID and password to view and print the electronic form.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING BOX 1 & 2: In previous years, your 1098-T included a figure in Box 2 that represented the qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) we billed to your student account for the calendar (tax) year.  Due to a change to institutional reporting requirements under federal law, beginning with tax year 2018, we will report in Box 1 the amount of QTRE you paid during the year.

Depending on your income (or your family's income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit.  (You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credit in IRS Publication 970.)

The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 - the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return.

Sussex County Community College is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or advisor.

The bookstore voucher is only good for the date of issue. These bookstore charges are limited to books and necessary supplies needed for the class in which the student is enrolled. There is a maximum of $800 at the start of book sales through the 10th day of the semester.

FERPA is a Federal law that is administered by the Family Policy Compliance Office (Office) in the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA applies to all educational agencies and institutions that receive funding under any program administered by the Department. Once a student reaches 18 years of age or attends a postsecondary institution, he or she becomes an “eligible student,” and all rights formerly given to parents under FERPA transfer to the student. If a student wishes to have someone have access to their financial status they can stop in at the Bursar’s Office and sign the waiver in person.

For more information, you can go to the FERPA General Guidance for Students.

NOTE: You must complete a FERPA form at the Bursar's Office for parents/guardians any third party if you would like them to access your account information.
