SCCC's Commitment to Improvement

Sussex County Community College is dedicated to consistently enhancing its services for both students and the community. This dedication goes beyond academics; the College also prioritizes the modernization of facilities to enrich the learning experience.

 

Status of Capital Projects:

 

  • Adult Transition Center

    The Adult Transition Center (ATC) at Sussex County Community College is a two-year, post-secondary program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; including career exploration with on-site job coaching. The College is currently remodeling the Chapel in the old Don Bosco Camp on campus, which will provide a dedicated space for the ATC Program. This new location will offer a supportive and nurturing environment where students can thrive and develop essential skills for independence. The remodeled chapel will retain its historic charm, while being equipped with modern amenities to facilitate learning and growth.

    • Repair the old chapel building envelope: Structural repairs, new roofing, insulation, windows, and siding.
    • Paved the way for future interior vocational and office spaces.

 


 

 


 

  • Athletic Field Irrigation

    Adding an irrigation system to our athletic fields aims to enhance the quality of the playing surface, ensuring it remains lush and green throughout the season. The new system will utilize water-efficient technology, aligning with the College’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Students and staff can look forward to improved facilities that support both athletic excellence and ecological mindfulness.

 


 

  • Campus-Wide Lighting [Pending Board Approval]

    The College is looking to install new lighting throughout campus. This initiative aims to enhance safety and energy efficiency, creating a brighter and more welcoming atmosphere for students, faculty, and visitors. The new lighting would incorporate LED technology, known for its long-lasting performance and reduced energy consumption, aligning with the College’s commitment to sustainability. The College is excited about this improvement and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on the campus experience.

 


 

  • Faculty Office Renovations

    The renovation of our faculty office space aims to create a more welcoming and efficient environment for both faculty and students. The new design will include updated furnishings, improved lighting, and enhanced technology to support academic advisement. This initiative is part of the College's ongoing commitment to providing a personal and supportive educational experience.

 


 

  • Learning Commons

    This exciting project aims to create a more welcoming and resource-rich environment for students and faculty. With plans to incorporate cutting-edge technology and versatile study spaces, the updated library will support collaborative learning and research. We are committed to maintaining a collection that meets the diverse needs of our community, ensuring access to a wealth of information, and fostering a vibrant academic culture.     • Transformation of a 10,500-square-foot Library into modern commons with classrooms, study rooms, offices, and collaborative learning areas.

 


 

  • Library & Sciences Building HVAC System

    This HVAC System upgrade aims to enhance comfort, carbon abatement, and energy efficiency of the Library and Sciences Building on campus. This initiative reflects the College’s commitment to fostering an eco-friendly campus and supporting the well-being of its community. As part of this project, there will be ongoing assessments to ensure that the systems operate optimally, aligning with the institution's long-term goals of sustainability and innovation.

 


 

  • MTEC Back Building [Pending Board Approval]

    The College aims to renovate the building located behind the McGuire Technical Education Center to create additional space for hands-on learning in an innovative environment.The project is set to include state-of-the-art labs and modern classrooms, designed to enhance the educational experience for students pursuing technical and vocational training. By fostering a collaborative atmosphere, the new facility will not only support academic growth but also encourage creativity and innovation among students and faculty. The renovation is part of the College's commitment to providing top-notch resources and opportunities for its community, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the demands of the ever-evolving job market.

 


 

  • Nursing Simulation Lab

    The Nursing Simulation Lab will be designed to enhance the educational experience of nursing students, providing them with realistic, hands-on training in a controlled environment. The lab will feature state-of-the-art training mannequins and advanced medical equipment, allowing students to practice and refine their skills with scenarios that mimic real-life medical situations. This innovative approach aims to better prepare students for the challenges of modern healthcare, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide exceptional patient care upon graduation.   • Optics Center Building

    With a renewed focus on cutting-edge research and innovative education, the new Optics Center aims to become a hub of excellence in the field of optics. The reimagined center will feature state-of-the-art laboratories and collaborative spaces designed to foster creativity and collaboration among students, faculty, and industry partners. By integrating the latest technological advancements, the Optics Center is set to provide hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for successful careers in the ever-evolving landscape of optical technology. This initiative reflects SCCC’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities and maintaining its position at the forefront of scientific study.

    • A 2,600-square-foot addition and 2,100-square-foot renovation.
    • Features: Two classrooms, two equipment labs, and ADA-compliant bathrooms. The exterior improvements include a new roof and EIFS siding.

 


 

  • PAC Atrium Renovations

    The Performing Arts Center Atrium has been host to many events on campus. As the needs of the venue have evolved over the years, the facility is due for a reimagining. The goal is to create a versatile and welcoming environment that can accommodate a diverse range of events, exhibitions, and gatherings. Whether it's through the innovative design elements, enhanced acoustics, or state-of-the-art technology, the reimagined Atrium will serve as a vibrant hub of creativity and connection on campus.

 


 

  • Patient Care Lab

    This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with hands-on training and experience in a realistic healthcare environment. Equipped with the latest medical technology and simulation equipment, the lab is designed to enhance the learning experience and prepare students for successful careers in the growing healthcare field. Students will have the opportunity to practice essential skills such as patient monitoring, phlebotomy, and basic patient care under the guidance of experienced instructors. The addition of this lab underscores SCCC’s commitment to providing quality education and ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare industry.

 


 

  • PSTA Basement

    The project aims to enhance and modernize the PSTA facilities, providing an improved environment for training future public safety professionals. This initiative underscores SCCC's commitment to offering top-tier educational experiences and ensuring that students have access to the best resources and learning conditions. The remodeled space will include updated classroom space and versatile training areas designed to meet the evolving needs of the curriculum. As construction progresses, the SCCC community eagerly anticipates the positive impact these improvements will have on both students and faculty.

    • Renovations will add two classrooms and basement access.
    • Supporting training programs for community safety.

 


 

  • PSTA Outdoor Shooting Range

    The Public Safety Training Academy will be installing an outdoor shooting range to accommodate our law enforcement. This new addition aims to enhance training opportunities and ensure that officers are well-prepared for real-world scenarios. The facility will include various target setups and safety features to provide a comprehensive training environment. The PSTA is committed to maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism, and this new range will be an invaluable resource for both current officers and trainees.

 


 

  • Softball Field Electricity/Scoreboard

    The College will be running electrical lines to the softball field and adding a new scoreboard. This project aims to enhance the facility for athletes and spectators alike, providing a more engaging and enjoyable experience during games. The new scoreboard will keep the audience better informed and the electrical lines will add lighting to the field, presenting the opportunity night games. These improvements reflect the College’s commitment to supporting its athletic programs and fostering school spirit.
