Naming Opportunities on SCCC's Campus

There is perhaps no better, more lasting, or more literal way to make your mark at Sussex County Community College than to name a part of campus that means something to you.

We are proud to offer the community the opportunity to honor important people, dates, and organizations by bestowing a name upon a certain element of the campus. Sussex County Community College has many facilities you may choose from to adopt as a naming opportunity. All naming opportunities will be established and maintained in accordance with the SCCC Naming Policy.

Donors create a visible legacy when they name buildings, classrooms, lecture halls, and other areas of the College. Named spaces help us to personalize campus and create a warmer feeling when directing visitors. The following list provides an overview of the naming opportunities available in recognition of significant gifts to the College. Please note that this list only partially represents all recognition opportunities.

Donors are encouraged to work with the College Administration early in the process to determine naming opportunities that will most closely match the donors’ interests with the College’s needs.

All giving opportunities are subject to discussion with the Administration to ensure that they will accomplish the donor's goals consistently with the needs of the College.

Naming Policies & Procedures

The Board of Trustees shall retain the sole right to grant naming opportunities for all facilities and grounds, in whole or in part, of Sussex County Community College.

  1. In granting naming opportunities, the Board will take care to protect the reputation of SCCC and, at the same time, provide opportunities to honor individuals and companies who have made significant contributions of money or service to the College.
  2. The criteria for the naming opportunity and the monetary value of the naming opportunity shall be determined by the Board of Trustees. The criteria and monetary value of each opportunity will be reviewed periodically by the Board.
  3. All recommendations to the SCCC Board of Trustees must come through the SCCC President.
  4. The SCCC President's recommendation must contain the following information:
    1. Name and information about individual being honored
    2. Facility recommended
    3. Funding option selected by donor
    4. The type of signage that will be used to designate the facility
  5. A donor contributing for a naming opportunity will have his or her name on the facility for a set duration agreed upon with the donor. Once a named facility is renovated or substantially changed, the donor will have the option to retain the name with an additional contribution, the amount to be set by the SCCC Board of Trustees.
  6. The honor will not be bestowed until a minimum of 50% of the gift has been received. The donor will have three years to provide the rest of the funds. If not forthcoming, the designation will be removed, but the funds will be retained by the College.
  7. An agreement outlining the procedures will be drafted and executed with each donor that contains specific language on points 4-6.
  8. The SCCC Trustees retain the right to name any facility for an individual who has performed outstanding service to the College without an expectation of a monetary reward (e.g., The Connor Green).
  9. The SCCC Trustees reserve the right to remove the donor’s or honoree’s name from the facility if he or she is found to be in "ill-repute" (e.g., indicted for or convicted of a crime, or otherwise brings shame or embarrassment to the College). The College retains all funds in these situations.
  10. All funds contributed for facility naming opportunities will be deposited with the College Foundation for a Sussex County Community College Capital Fund account to be designated for use on future College capital projects or facility repair or renovation needs.
