The Spring 2025 semester at Sussex County Community College (SCCC) has begun on a high note, celebrating a significant year-over-year increase in student enrollment. This achievement reflects SCCC's commitment to delivering a high-quality academic experience while expanding access to education. It also marks the 4th consecutive semester of robust enrollment growth across all student groups, including new and continuing students.
SCCC's full-time-equivalent student enrollment for Spring 2025 has risen compared to Spring 2024. Additionally, SCCC experienced a 3% overall increase in headcount from last spring. The current projection is 6% over last year.
Dr. Cory Homer, Interim President of SCCC, attributes the enrollment growth to the College's affordable tuition, exceptional academic programs, and diverse educational opportunities.
"Students are choosing SCCC for its ability to offer an accessible education that allows them to graduate with minimal or no debt, setting them up for success as they either transfer to four-year institutions or enter the workforce," Dr. Homer noted.
Through its Strategic Enrollment Group, the College fosters collaboration across departments to improve enrollment and student success. This group ensures that all students can access the resources and support needed to thrive academically.
SCCC prioritizes early academic intervention to ensure students stay on track. Faculty and staff regularly check in with students and track their progress to identify those who may need additional support and ensure they have the resources to succeed.
Proactive academic advising is another pillar of SCCC's student support system. Advisors work closely with students to create personalized educational plans, offer mentorship, and connect them with campus resources. This comprehensive approach to advising ensures that students receive the guidance necessary for their academic journey.
Financial support remains a priority, with SCCC's financial aid services assisting students in navigating tuition costs and securing the aid they need to succeed.
"We are committed to helping our students succeed inside and outside the classroom," Dr. Homer emphasized. "By offering proactive advising, financial assistance, high-impact educational opportunities, and early interventions, we are taking a comprehensive approach to student success."
The College is also dedicated to meeting students' evolving needs. SCCC focuses on re-engaging adult learners—especially those who previously attended College but did not earn a credential. This initiative provides tailored support to ensure these students receive academic and career success.
The vibrant Early College Advantage programs, which allow high school students to earn college credits before graduation, have played a key role in enrollment growth. Through SCCC's Jump Start and Concurrent Enrollment programs, students can take courses during the school day or on the SCCC campus while benefiting from significant cost savings. These initiatives contributed to the enrollment growth.
For prospective students, SCCC opens registration for its Summer Sessions on February 17th and Fall Semester on March 24th. New students can apply to get started with a free application. For questions, contact Admissions.
