Sussex County Community College (SCCC) proudly unveils the new John M. Kuntz Athletic Hall of Fame Wall, which celebrates the legacy of retired longtime athletic director John Kuntz and his profound impact on the College’s athletic program.

Kuntz dedicated over thirty years to SCCC, beginning his journey in 1987 as the men’s basketball coach. The following year, he took on the additional role of baseball coach before stepping into the full-time athletic director position. Under his leadership, SCCC athletics flourished, expanding from a single team to a thriving department with twelve competitive teams.

Beyond his contributions to athletics, Kuntz played a pivotal role in shaping student activities, the Student Government Association, and campus clubs, ensuring a well-rounded college experience for students. He highlights three milestones when reflecting on his achievements: establishing SCCC’s athletic program, expanding athletics from one team to twelve, and enhancing and improving the athletic facilities.

"My tenure at SCCC has been truly remarkable," said Kuntz. "Watching the College transform and grow—not just in athletics, but in many areas—has been inspiring. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside dedicated coaches, staff, and administrators, especially with the strong support of the College administration. This dedication is truly an honor.”

His influence extended far beyond Sussex County. In 2019, Kuntz was recognized as the Ron Case Athletic Director of the Year at the NJCAA Meeting, a prestigious honor awarded to an athletic director in New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware for their dedication and contributions to college athletics.

Interim President Dr. Cory Homer admired Kuntz’s lasting impact, stating, “John Kuntz’s impact on Sussex County Community College is immeasurable. His dedication, vision, and commitment to our student-athletes have shaped the foundation of our athletics program. We honor his legacy by dedicating the new Athletic Hall of Fame in his name—a lasting tribute to his passion for sports, education, and student success."

The John M. Kuntz Athletic Hall of Fame Wall is a tribute to his dedication and ensures his legacy after his retirement in 2023. The HOF is located in the Academic and Athletic Building on campus.
