PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria to seek the best qualified candidates available
for all faculty positions within the limitations imposed by the availability of resources, level of
the appointment, unique requirements of the positions, and the talent pool.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF FACULTY REQUIREMENTS
Sussex County Community College shall consider academic preparation, professional training,
and equivalent experience of prospective faculty

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to define that faculty responsibilities are commitment to teaching
excellence, student learning, involvement in campus life and community service, and discipline-based professional development.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty shall hold to high scholarly standards which involves keeping abreast of developments in
the specialty and creative activities to contribute to such developments.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to clarify that in order for the College to maintain itself as a
dynamic learning environment, faculty must continually advance themselves, their discipline and
their teaching methods.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
SCCC aims to meet the need of faculty in teaching in learning whenever possible. SCCC
provides resources to enable faculty to thrive at every stage of their careers, and to help all of
their learners reach their potential. This policy is not in addition to contract provisions.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish criteria for granting tenure to full-time faculty whose
performance as a non-tenured faculty member demonstrates the ability and willingness to make a
continuing contribution to the positive growth and development of Sussex County Community
College.


GENERAL STATEMENT FOR EARNING TENURE FOR FULL-TIME FACULTY
SCCC shall grant tenure to full-time faculty (i.e. those who hold academic rank and appointment
to faculty positions), in accordance with all applicable New Jersey statutes and New Jersey
Administrative Code requirements, as well as the criteria established by the Board of Trustees in
its sole discretion. The final decision of the College President shall be considered final and shall
not be subject to any grievance and arbitration provisions of the SCCC Faculty Federation
agreement.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish a process for the evaluation of full-time tenured faculty.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF EVALUATION OF FULL-TIME TENURED FACULTY
The evaluation process is structured to allow each faculty member to identify relevant areas for
performance improvement and develop an appropriate plan to accomplish their professional
growth.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish a process for evaluation of full-time non-tenured
faculty.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF EVALUATION OF FULL-TIME NON-TENURED FACULTY
The evaluation process is structured to allow each faculty member to identify relevant areas for
performance improvement and develop an appropriate plan to accomplish their professional
growth.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to establish the requirement for promotion in rank at Sussex County
Community College.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF PROMOTION IN RANK
Promotion to a higher academic rank is intended to reward faculty who have made significant
contributions to the college and community, have excelled as teachers, and have helped advance
the mission of Sussex County Community College. Collegiality, scholarly activity, and support
for student success are basic attributes that faculty must demonstrate in order to be promoted.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY

 The purpose of this policy is to affirm Sussex County Community College’s commitment to the values of free inquiry and the free creation and expression of ideas.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF ACADEMIC FREEDOM

 SCCC embraces academic freedom which is not only a policy giving faculty latitude in addressing their academic subjects, but is also a crucial component of a larger commitment to the free search for truth. Academic freedom is accompanied by equally demanding responsibilities. Faculty, therefore, have both rights and responsibilities to the College and society.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
To provide a framework for full-time faculty of the implications of employment outside of
Sussex County Community College.


GENERAL STATEMENT ON OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT FOR FULL-TIME SCCC FACULTY POLICY
Newly appointed faculty and current faculty who accept outside employment after initial
appointment to the College are required to provide notification of any employment held outside
the College.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is for granting sabbatical leave in accordance with established
procedures.


GENERAL STATEMENT OF SABBATICAL LEAVE
The Board of Trustees may, dependent upon availability of funds, award sabbatical leave(s)
annually based on the criteria established by the College.

PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The College's Board of Trustees shall, upon the recommendation of the President, appoint
community advisory committees for each career program and/or for other major programs or
initiatives of the college. Membership on such committees will be drawn from the professional,
business and education community having expertise in the field.
